There are many differences between a State of Texas Licensed Professional Counselor and a Christian Counselor Licensed by the National Christian Counseling Association and governed by a local Church Body. The main difference is:
A license from your state requires you to abide by the state’s regulations. An ordination or commission from a church or religious institution holds you accountable to the organization that issues it.
When contemplating the choice of State Licensing or Christian Counseling, Dr. Cathi decided that working toward a Ph.D. in Christian Counseling would allow her to share the love of Jesus in a non-judgmental and to be an agent of God instead of an agent for the state. She talked with her local Church and after a lengthy review system, Grace Baptist Church in Grandview, TX. presented her with a License of Ministry. Dr. Cathi worked diligently toward her doctorate and completed her dissertation in February 2017, and on May 5th, 2017 received her official notification that she had earned her PhD. in Christian Counseling from Colorado Theological Seminary.
Dr. Cathi is not your typical Christian, she has known many struggles in her life and only wants to help those who may be going through those struggles currently. Her goal is found in I Timothy 1:5: ” But the goal of our instruction is love from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith”.
Her belief that a Christians duty is to love people the way that Jesus loved people allows her to leave judgment out of any situation a person seeking counseling might be encountering.
